RELEVANT EXCERPTS:
- To date, there are two institutions that are yet to be recognised by the Legal Profession Qualifying Board (LPQB) that are the law faculties of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (Unisza) and Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (Usim).
- Unisza and Usim have been working towards LPQB recognition for almost a decade, with substantial resources mobilised to achieve this end.
- Since the CBE will replace CLP as the medium to enter legal practice, the LPQB should first solve matters pertaining to the recognition of both law schools of Unisza and Usim before they proceed with this plan.
- The fate of hundreds of law graduates of Unisza and Usim will be at stake and their plights should not be ignored.
- The claims that both Unisza and Usim have yet to reach the standards required to be recognised law schools are unfounded as the academic staff of both schools are not only well-trained, majority of them are also PhD holders from universities all around the world.
